The 40086 ROMANICA 9 model is a reproduction of the basilica of San Juan de Baños in 1:65 scale. The Basilica of San Juan Bautista in Baños de Cerrato (Palencia) was declared a National Monument in 1865. It was restored shortly thereafter by Mr Manuel Anibar Álvarez. Although the modifications introduced over time prevent one from gaining an accurate idea of the original structure, is considered to be one of the most noteworthy and best conserved Visigoth buildings in Spain. According to the stone tablet embedded in the triumphal arch to commemorate its foundation, the church was built in 661 at the request of King Recceswinth. Tradition tells us that the Gothic king sought relief from his kidney ailment at a nearby spring and, following the cure, built the monument.
